Noa Levy & Shimpei Ogawa

You, Me & Cole

(July 2020)

You, Me & Cole reimagines Cole Porter’s songbook for the 21st Century in an unusual voice/double bass duo setting.

As expats in San Francisco, Israeli vocalist Noa Levy and award-winning Japanese bassist Shimpei Ogawa found a common language in Porter’s creations – some of the finest songs ever written – and now bring their own traditions and musical influences to reimagine them.

You, Me & Cole brings a totally fresh interpretation to Cole Porter’s music – a conversation between bass and voice, laying bare the composer’s wonderful melodies, clever harmonies and witty, vivacious lyrics. Brazilian and Middle Eastern music, as well as Blues and Bach, inspire the duo’s arrangements across these 10 tracks.

Despite the unusual and minimal instrumentation, Noa and Shimpei share more than enough creativity, charisma and chemistry to hold the attention, as they skillfully break apart and carefully reassemble a selection of Porter’s lesser-known gems and old favourites.
