MONIKA LIDKE
LET THE WORLD BE A QUESTIONRelease: 8th Oct 2020
Autumn 2020 welcomes “Let The World Be a Question” – the lovingly-crafted 4th album from UK-based Polish singer-songwriter Monika Lidke.
With a talent for soft, melodic tunes that are radio friendly yet deceptively intricate, this impressive outing of Polish and English originals blends jazz, folk and Latin grooves.
Monika’s long-time band is augmented with both the Polish Vadomaya Collective and Alle Choir London, highlighting the true multicultural, multi-genre nature of the project.
Always looking for new exciting collaborations, Monika also demonstrates the versatility of her songs by teaming up with producers Wulfnote and Happy Cat Jay to create three remixes for this release.
Whilst her first three albums established her as a leading voice back home in Poland, and her busy touring schedule cemented her reputation in the UK, this latest offering should tip off yet more fans in the European jazz community to her ever-growing body of work.
About Monika Lidke
Monika Lidke is a singer-songwriter of Polish origin, currently living in London.
Her debut album, “Waking up to Beauty” was released in 2008, shortly after moving to the UK from Paris.
The album achieved critical acclaim around Europe, especially in Poland where it was championed by well-known radio presenter Marek Niedzwiecki who described it as ”beautiful, delicate, addictive!”
Monika’s second album “If I was to describe you” was an opportunity to collaborate with two outstanding guests: Basia Trzetrzelewska (vocals) and Janek Gwizdala (bass guitar) and saw her invited to perform at Polish Radio’s prestigious Agnieszka Osiecka Studio.
In 2017 Monika Lidke released her third album “Gdyby kazdy z nas” on the American label Dot Time Records. Her first ever project exclusively in Polish, this love-letter to her mother tongue was inspired by poems of contemporary writer Andrzej Ballo.
The talented group of international musicians assembled for this included renowned Polish jazz guitarist Marek Napiórkowski and singer Dorota Miskiewicz.
As a longtime UK resident, Monika has performed at many of the capital’s favorite jazz clubs, including Ronnie Scott’s, Pizza Express Jazz Club, 606 Jazz Club, as well as the London Jazz Festival, Manchester Jazz Festival, Jazzahead and Rhythms of the World Festival.
A keen collaborator, Monika often performs with bass player Shez Raja, co-writes songs for film and TV with international composers, poets and lyricists and is currently recording an album with strings.
